Brady Leads Pack Again As Men's Cross Country Places Sixth At Elms Blazer Invitational

CHICOPEE, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams recorded solid performances at the Elms Blazer Invitational on Saturday morning, as the Buccaneer men placed sixth and the women’s squad ninth among 14 entrants in the competition.

Sophomore Tyler Brady (Woburn, Mass.) paced Massachusetts Maritime on the men’s side for a third straight week, as he posted a 14th place individual finish with a time of 29:30 over the 8K layout.  Freshman Anthony DeTommaso (Weymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass.) followed in 21st and 29th place, respectively, with times of 30:33 and 31:00, while senior Evan Balderelli (Brimfield, Mass.) and sophomore Godfred Mbengam (Randolph, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring in 35th and 48th place, respectively, with times of 31:18 and 32:56.  Babson took top honors in the men’s competition with a score of 23 points, while the University of New England (52 points) and Gordon (89) finished in the respective runner-up and third place spots.

On the women’s side, junior Liz Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) set the pace for Massachusetts Maritime for a third straight week as well, as she covered the 5K course in a time of 23:16 to finish 29th individually.  Junior Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.) and senior Corinne Prado (Raynham, Mass.) followed in 47th and 52nd place, respectively, for the Buccaneers with times of 24:59 and 25:31, while senior Sophie Enman (Marblehead, Mass.) and freshman Siobhan O’Malley (Marshfield, Mass.) closed out the scoring in 57th and 68th place, respectively, with times of 25:44 and 26:50.  The University of New England claimed the team crown in the event with a score of 28 points, while Gordon (55) and Sage College (100) took the runner-up and third place positions, respectively.

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads head to Wenham, Mass. next Saturday morning to participate in the Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational that begins at 11:00 a.m.
