Cohen, Beaulieu Named As MASCAC Men's Soccer Player, Co-Rookie Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime sophomore goalkeeper Joe Cohen and freshman back Chris Beaulieu were named as the respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player and Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon for their efforts in the Buccaneers’ 2-0 victory at Framingham State last Saturday.

Cohen, a native of Plymouth, Mass. and a graduate of Plymouth South High School, earned his third league honor of the season after making seven saves to record his sixth win and shutout of the year, and he added his first career assist on fellow junior Nick Parker’s (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South) insurance goal in the 19th minute of play.  Cohen was named as the MASCAC Player of the Week on back-to-back occasions on September 15th and 22nd, and he sports an 0.81 goals against average and an .878 saves percentage for the fall.

Beaulieu, a native of Carver, Mass. and a graduate of Carver High School, assisted on junior Connor McInnis’s (Duxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy) game-winning tally against the Rams, as Massachusetts Maritime bested Framingham State for the first time in 10 years with the triumph.  Beaulieu, who shared the MASCAC honor with Westfield State freshman Connor Gilbert, ranks second only to Parker on the Buccaneer scoring list this season with three goals and a pair of helpers for eight points.

Head Coach Greg Perry’s Buccaneers enter the week in sole possession of second place in the MASCAC standings and have already secured a spot in the upcoming conference tournament, which begins on Tuesday, November 4th with quarterfinal round action.  Massachusetts Maritime returns to action on Wednesday evening by hosting UMass Boston in a non-league match at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
