How It Happened

As the away team on their own field, the Buccaneers took advantage of having the first at-bat in the game and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Velzis tripled in Leslie for the first run. Estrada singled to right and brought home Velzis. Marsden knocked in the third run on a ground out to third that allowed Pietrafesa to score. The Bucs held MCLA off the board in the first and led, 3-0, after one.

In the bottom of the second, Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to right and brought in Rob Correia from third for the first run of the game for MCLA. They trailed the Bucs, 3-1, after two innings.

After a scoreless third, the Buccaneers busted out for four runs in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded, Pietrafesa was hit by a pitch to drive in a run. Logiudice followed that with a single through the right side of the infield to bring in two runners. Marsden later walked in the inning with the bases loaded to drive in his second run of the game and the Bucs took a 7-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, MCLA closed the gap a bit, scoring twice. Galan doubled down the left field line bringing in Vargas and Mazzeo grounded out to short with Hernandez on third and he came in to score. Maritime led 7-3 after four.

Neither team scored in the fifth and the Bucs were kept scoreless in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Givhans hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to two runs, 7-5.

In the top of the eighth, the Buccaneers scored four to extend their lead to six. Logiudice scored one a bases loaded wild pitch, Vieira hit an infield single that scored Estrada, and Weir doubled to bring in Vieira and Marsden. The Bucs led 11-5 after seven and a half.

In the top of the ninth, the Bucs scored one more on another bases loaded hit by pitch, this time by Leslie, and Marsden scored to make the score 12-5. Dziczkowski shut the Trailblazers down in the eighth and ninth to secure the 12-5 win over MCLA and win the conference series.
