Marsden Delivers Go-Ahead Triple in Bucs Win over Rams

BOSTON, Mass -- The Buccaneers took on the 8-3 Suffolk Rams on Tuesday in Boston and after falling behind 6-5 late, Jack Marsden delivered a three RBI triple in the top of the ninth to help the Bucs past the Rams in non-conference play.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • AJ Pietrafesa extended his hitting streak to 18 games with two hits. Costa Beechin, and Evan Vieira each had two hits as well. 
  • Tucker LeslieGrady FreemanMichael EstradaAlec Marsden, and Aidan Weir each had one hit. 
  • Marsden drove in three on his bases clearing triple. Pietrafesa drove in two runs; Beechin and Vieira both drove in one run.
  • Eastrada and Beechin both scored twice. Michael Logiudice, Freeman, Pietrafesa, Vieira, and Marsden all scored once. 
  • Pietrafesa added twiple to go along with Marsden's as the only two extra base hits for the Bucs. 
  • Estada was the only Buc with a stolen base.

Suffolk

  • Harry Painter recorded three hits for the Rams. Garret Roberts and Sam Armbruster each had two hits.
  • Jonny Gilbride, Max Iorio, and Jack Mihalchik all had one hit.
  • Roberts drove in three runs, Armbruster drove in two, and Gilbride and Painted each drove in one.
  • Roberts scored twice, five other Rams scored once.
  • Roberts recorded a home run and a triple. Painted had a triple and a double. Armbruster recorded a triple to round out the extra base hits.
  • Painter, Iorio, and Mihalchik all had stolen bases for Suffolk

How It Happened

Suffolk scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a Gilbride single to score Roberts. The Rams led 1-0 after one.

The score remained 1-0 Rams until the top of the third when the Bucs went off for five runs. Pietrafesa tripled to plate two. Estrada followed that with a ground ball to first allowing Pietrafesa to score on an error. Beechin made it 4-1 on a single to center, bringing in Estrada. Vieira capped off the inning with a single that brought Beechin around to score. The Bucs led 5-1 after three.

Neither team mustered a run in the middle innings then, in the bottom of the seventh, the Rams scored four times to tie the game at 5-5. Roberts hit a three run home run to make the score 5-4 and Armbruster walked with the bases loaded to tie the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Painter reached first on a fielder's choice and Joe Norris came in to score to give the Rams a one-run lead late.

The Bucs loaded the bases in the top of the ninth with no outs and Marsden came through for the Bucs with a triple to left center to score three runs and give the Bucs a 8-6 lead. Leslie came up later in the inning and reached on an error that allowed Marsden to score and extend the Buccaneers lead to 9-6. In the bottom of the ninth, Baiardi gave up one run on Armbruster's triple but closed out the inning to earn the 9-6 win for Maritime.
