NEW LONDON, Conn./NEWPORT, R.I. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team posted a pair of solid performances over the weekend in competition at both the Coast Guard Clark Open and the Salve Regina Southern Series Regatta in cold and windy conditions.

Sophomores Daniel Barry (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Chris Wagner (Middleton, Mass.), along with freshmen Robert Queisser (Carmel, Ind.) and Leah Saunders (Rochester, Mass.), represented the Buccaneers at Coast Guard, as the quartet posted a pair of first place performances in placing third among 10 entrants in the competition.  Massachusetts Maritime finished ahead of rival Maine Maritime as well as both Coast Guard entries in the event.

Freshmen Karl Ryder and Ryan Davis (North Falmouth, Mass.) comprised the Buccaneer “A” boat at Salve Regina, while the tandem of junior Andrew Smith and sophomore Matthew Charpentier (Lunenburg, Mass.) raced in the “B” boat.  Building wins limited the squads to a pair of races on Saturday, and Massachusetts Maritime finished the competition 11th of 16 teams in the event after conditions calmed on Sunday.

The Buccaneers will host the Herring Pond Invitational next weekend in Bourne beginning at 9:30 a.m.
