Rifle Opens 2010 Season With Competition Over Weekend at Mid-Atlantic Conference Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --  The Massachusetts Maritime rifle team opened its 2010 campaign over the weekend at the Third Annual Mid-Atlantic Conference Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy, as the Buccaneers posted a smallbore victory over Loyola (Md.) as well as an overall triumph in postal action against Hofstra.

Seniors Michael Surette (Lynn, Mass.) and Kevin Geisel (Gloucester, Mass.) led the way with combined scores of 540 and 534 for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received scores of 449 and 262 points from freshmen Matt Cabral (Acushnet, Mass.) and Steven Johnson (Irvine, Calif.), respectively.

The Buccaneers fell in dual-match action to Akron, John Jay, Coast Guard, Indiana (Pa.) and VMI in combined action over the weekend while also dropping a smallbore decision to Princeton.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until Saturday, October 23rd when the Buccaneers travel to Lexington, Va. to take on VMI in MAC action.
