BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Kevin McCord (Norwell, Mass.) netted a pair of goals to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 3-1 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Newbury Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

McCord gave the host Buccaneers (4-7) an early 1-0 advantage just 11:03 into the contest by converting a feed from fellow senior Andrew Mullen (Bridgewater, Mass.), but the visiting Nighthawks (2-6) evened matters just over eight minutes later when freshman Bryan Barrios (Central Falls, N.Y.) took a pass from sophomore Shaundize Moosavizadeh (Winchester, Mass.) for his first collegiate marker.  Freshman Jake Soifert (Rehoboth, Mass.) gave Massachusetts Maritime the lead for good in the 35th minute when he converted a feed from junior Dennis Doherty (West Falmouth, Mass.) for his first collegiate goal and a 2-1 Buccaneer edge at the break, and McCord iced the hosts’ triumph with 2:26 remaining in the match in converting another Mullen pass for his third goal of the season to close out the scoring.

Sophomore Patrick Slaney (Northbridge, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a pair of first half saves for Massachusetts Maritime, while freshman Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) also recorded two stops over the final 45 minutes of action for the Buccaneers.  Junior William McNally (Grafton, Mass.) made nine saves in net in the setback for Newbury, as Massachusetts Maritime outshot the Nighthawks by a 27-6 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while Newbury travels to Boston on Thursday afternoon to take on UMass Boston in a non-league match that begins at 3:30 p.m.
