CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Junior Jonathan Jones Takano’s (Tokyo, Japan) goal in the 58th minute held up as the game-winner to lift Lesley to a 1-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Edward Field.
After a scoreless opening half of action, Takano converted a crossing pass from junior Joseph Petit (Salem, Mass.) on the deciding tally that kept the host Lynx (5-0) unbeaten on the young season, and senior Zach Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) made that stand up by making three saves to notch the triumph in goal for Lesley.
Sophomore Patrick Slaney (Northbridge, Mass.) made seven saves in net in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (1-2), as the Lynx outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 15-7 margin for the match, including an 11-4 advantage in the opening 45 minutes of play.
Massachusetts Maritime travels to Boston on Wednesday evening to take on Wentworth in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Lesley will also head over to Boston on Wednesday evening to take on Emmanuel in a non-league match that begins at 8:00 p.m.
