Maritime falls to Babson in NEWMAC Opener

WELLESLEY, Mass – The Buccaneers closed out the March portion of their schedule on Saturday by opening their NEWMAC schedule on the road against Babson College. Babson scored 15 times in the first half, five more in the second and the Bucs were only able to answer twice, falling to the Beavers, 20-2.

The Bucs two goals came from the sticks of senior captain Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass) and sophomore midfielder Trey Guerrini (Foxborough, Mass). Alexander Lucas (Walpole, Mass) had the lone assist for the visitors in the game. Defensively, Andrew Cook (Quincy, Mass) was the only Maritime player to cause a turnover. Starting goalie Michael Dolan (McLean, Va) faced 25 Babson shots, making 10 saves and allowing 15 of the 20 goals.

Babson's Owen Allen and Samuel Mishkind each scored four times in the game. Mishkind also had four assists, owen added two. Three other Beavers scored multiple goals. Starting goalie Chrisopher Aranalde earned the victory between the pipes, allowing just one goal on nine shots and making eight saves.

Babson scored four times in the first six minutes of the game before Guerrini got Maritime on the board. Babson scored twice more before the quarter ended to take a 6-1 lead to the second.

Picking up where they left off in the first, the Beavers scored nine unanswered goals in the second quarter, making it 11 unanswered going back to the first. At the half, the hosts led 15-1.

In the second half the Beavers scored three more times to run the streak to 14. Maritime scored their second and final goal with 30 seconds remaining in the third from Powers in a man-up situation. Babson scored two more times, once in the third, once in the fourth, to complete the 20-2 victory in the NEWMAC Opener.

Up next for the Buccaneers is a conference showdown with Clark University at home at Clean Harbors Stadium on Wednesday evening at 7pm.
