Bucs Take the Fight out of the Scots in Ten-Goal Win

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Following a close, 12-10 loss to Norwich University on Thursday evening, the Buc Men's lacrosse team faced off against Gordon College on Saturday night at Clean Harbors Stadium. Seemingly invigorated, with high energy, the Bucs took down the 3-1 Fighting Scots 18-8 to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Senior captain Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass) led the way with five goals. Sophomore Alexandre Lucas (Walpole, Mass) scored four times and assisted on a goal. Ben Avakian (Bourne, Mass) scored three goals for the Bucs and added an assist. Senior captain Kenneth Parnell (Marshfield, Mass) and freshman Spencer Jones (Hyannis, Mass) each scored two goals. Jones racked up four assists, Parnell had two of his own. Trey Guerrini (Foxborough, Mass) and faceoff man Colby Unterstein (Ellington, Conn) score a goal apiece. Goalie Michael Dolan (McLean, Va) made two saves in the game on the 10 shots he saw.

For the Fighting Scots, Austin Early (Palmyra, Va) and Dan Arthur (Manorville, N.Y.) scored multiple times in the game. Early also assisted on two other Gordon scores. Goalie Jay Gallipo (Dover, N.H) made 14 saves on 32 total shots by the Buccaneers.

Gordon opened the game scoring three unanswered goals by the halfway point of the first quarter. 25 second after the third Gordon score, the Buccaneers got on the board on a Jones goal. That was the first of six unanswered by Maritime which went in to the second quarter.

Up 4-3 going in to the second and then 6-3 after adding the two tail end goals of the six unanswered, Gordon cut the lead to two. The Bucs scored four more in the second to take a 10-4 advantage to the halftime break.

In the third, the Bucs scored three with rebuttal, making it seven unanswered going back to the five minute mark of the second quarter.

Up 13-5 heading in to the final quarter of play, Gordon added three goals in the fourth, Maritime scored five times, taking the eventual lead of 18-8, which was the final score. Following the Gordon three goals to start the game, the Buccaneers went on an 18-3 run to close out the game and earn their second win of the season, evening at 2-2 on the year.

The Buccaneers are on the road for their next game on Tuesday, March 19th at 7pm against Salem State in Salem, Mass.
