BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The Buccaneers travelled to Dartmouth Wednesday night to take on future Little East Conference opponent, UMass-Dartmouth, in their penultimate non-conference game of the season. Holding off a late Corsair comeback, the Buccaneers improved to 5-5 on the season with a 7-6 road win.

The Buccaneers were led offensively by the team's leading scorer Benjamin Avakian (Bourne, Mass) and senior captain Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass). Each scored a game-high three goals in the, Powers added an assist. Coming off of an injury that had sidelined him for a couple weeks, junior Franklin Ragge (Scituate, Mass) scored once for the Bucs. Though they didn't score, Casey Fisher (Nashua, N.H.), Brendan Kelley (Drexel Hill, Penn), and Spencer Jones (Hyannis, Mass) each assisted on a score for the visitors. Senior captain goalie Michael Dolan (McLean, Va) made 16 saves in the game on 22 shots while allowing the six Corsair goals.

UMass-Dartmouth junior midfielder Mike Rizzo (Bridgewater, Mass) led the Corsairs with three goals on six shots. Donovan Prozinski (Ashland, Mass) scored twice and added an assist. Rounding out the scoring for UMD, Tim Jordan (Sandwich, Mass) scored once and assisted on another goal. Sophomore Josh Souza (Sandwich, Mass) had two assists for the hosts. Defensively, Sawyer Gibbons (Sandwich, Mass) caused a game-high five turnovers. Goalie Ted McCaffery (Pepperell, Mass) made 17 saves, in what was a great night for both goalies, on 24 shots and allowed the seven Maritime goals.

Dartmouth opened the scoring two and a half minutes in to the first on Rizzo's first goal but, the Avakian was quick to answer a minute later to even the score at 1-1. The defenses held both teams at bay for the next seven minutes until Powers scored his first with five minutes to play in the first, giving the Bucs their first and final lead of the game.

In the second, the Bucs opened the quarter on Ragge's goal three minutes in to take a 3-1 advantage. Powers extended the unanswered run to four goals, scoring with seven minutes to play before the half. Prozinski scored with a minute left in the second to cut the deficit in half, 4-2, going in to the break.

The third quarter was the highest scoring period in the game with four goals in total, two by each team. Rizzo scored first for the Corsairs to come within one goal of their guests. Powers and Avakian, on a man-up goal, scored back-to-back within two minutes of each other to retake a commanding three-goal, 6-3 lead. Prozinski, as he did towards the end of the first half, scored with a minute left in the third to get his team within two goals again going to the fourth.

Maritime was outscored in the fourth, 2-1, but Avakian's goal, less than two minutes in to the final period of play, proved to be the game winner as it game the Bucs a 7-4 lead. The Buccaneer defense and Dolan held off a comeback attempt by the Corsairs as they scored two late goals but couldn't break through again to tie the game. Maritime improved to 5-5 on the year with the 7-6 victory over UMD.
