Phillips Earns Second MASCAC Football Offensive Player Of The Week Honor Of Season

Massachusetts Maritime junior running back Richie Phillips was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Sunday afternoon for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ 32-14 victory over Worcester State on Saturday at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

Phillips, a native of Onset, Mass. and a graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School, amassed 222 all-purpose yards, including a career-high 143 rushing yards on 32 carries, and accounted for three touchdowns on runs of four and 37 yards to go with a 74-yard touchdown reception in the triumph.  Richie averaged 4.5 yards per carry and was responsible for 58 percent of Massachusetts Maritime’s total offense output of 386 yards on the day.

 

In three games this season, Phillips has rushed for 316 yards on 69 carries (4.6 yards per attempt) and leads the MASCAC in scoring with eight touchdowns (seven rushing, one receiving).  Richie also ranks second in the league in rushing yards (105.3) and all-purpose yards (146.3) per game.

 

Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s Buccaneers, who stand at 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action, travel to Fitchburg State for a MASCAC clash on Saturday afternoon that kicks off at Noon EDT.
