Massachusetts Maritime freshman linebacker Kenny Kern earned a spot on the D3football.com National Team of the Week Presented by Scoutware on Tuesday for his performance in the Buccaneers’ 24-21 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Westfield State last Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Kern, a native of Hopkinton, Mass. and a graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School, registered a career-high 15 total tackles (including 11 solo stops) and recorded three sacks for losses of 17 yards to lead the way defensively.  Kenny was named on Sunday as the MASCAC Rookie of the Week for his efforts, and he ranks fourth on the team with 32 total stops (25 solo) while adding five tackles for losses of 25 yards to go with his team-leading three sacks.

Kern is the first Massachusetts Maritime honoree on the D3football.com national squad since senior linebacker Marshall McCarthy (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) was tabbed last November following a 14-tackle performance in a 48-27 win over Plymouth State that included a pair of sacks and an interception.

Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s Buccaneers take a 4-2 overall record and a 3-1 MASCAC slate into a league road clash at UMass Dartmouth Saturday that kicks off at Noon.
