Banks, McCarthys And Pierce Tabbed As 2016 Football Co-Captains

The start of the 2016 Massachusetts Maritime football season is just over a month away, and as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign, Head Coach Jeremy Cameron has named four members of his senior class to serve as Buccaneer co-captains this fall.

Seniors Adam Banks (Sharon, Mass./Sharon), Grady McCarthy (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), Marshall McCarthy (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and Kenny Pierce (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) will look to provide leadership for the 44th edition of Massachusetts Maritime football, as the quartet has collectively earned impressive accolades during their respective careers.  Cameron, who enters his 12th season as the Buccaneers’ mentor, describes his captains as “fully committed to fulfilling the goals that have been established for our program.  They demand excellence from their teammates, and they hold themselves to a higher standard.  All four of our captains embody the word ‘leader’, and they will continue to represent the Academy with great distinction.”

Pierce earned first-team all-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference honors after ranking second in the league with 1,211 rushing yards and a school-record 15 rushing touchdowns (16 overall), while Marshall McCarthy collected second-team all-MASCAC accolades after pacing Massachusetts Maritime’s defensive unit with 100 total tackles (third best in the conference) that included 71 solo stops and four sacks.  Banks returns to anchor a Buccaneer offensive line that averaged just over 500 yards per game (291 on the ground) and amassed 50 total touchdowns (30 rushing, 20 passing), while Grady McCarthy (who also served as a team co-captain in 2015) was limited to just four contests in the defensive backfield due to injury but amassed five total tackles and an interception.

Cameron’s crew opens the new season on Friday, September 9th when Massachusetts Maritime heads to Throggs Neck, N.Y. to battle rival SUNY-Maritime in the Ninth Annual Chowder Bowl that kicks off at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
