FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Senior quarterback Kurt Leone (Marshfield, Mass.) completed 28-of-31 passes for 320 yards and connected with junior wideout James McCarthy (Newton, Mass.) for five touchdowns to lead Framingham State to a 48-20 New England Football Conference Bogan Division victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

Leone and McCarthy hooked up on a 39-yard scoring strike with just over five minutes remaining in the opening stanza to stake the host Rams (4-1, 2-0 NEFC Bogan) to a 7-0 advantage, but the visiting Buccaneers (2-3, 1-1 NEFC Bogan) evened matters in the first minute of the second quarter on Leone’s lone mistake of the day, an interception that was returned 75 yards for a touchdown by freshman Stefan Gustafson (Plymouth, Mass.) for his first career score.  Framingham State took control of the contest with a pair of touchdowns in just under four minutes, as freshman Melikke Van Alystne’s (Salem, Mass.) two-yard scoring plunge was followed by a 64-yard connection from Leone to McCarthy that extended the hosts’ edge to 20-7 at the break.

McCarthy hauled in his third touchdown of the day, a 24-yard pass from Leone, on the opening drive after intermission to give the Rams a 27-7 lead, but Massachusetts Maritime answered back on its ensuing possession when freshman quarterback Mike Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) hooked up with sophomore wideout Jonathan Emond (Green Harbor, Mass.) for a 64-yard touchdown that enabled the Buccaneers to creep back to a pair of scores at 27-14.  Leone and McCarthy completed their scoring connections over the final 7:16 of the third stanza on touchdown passes of five and 28 yards, respectively, and junior Jerome Watson’s (Burlington, Mass.) 28-yard scoring scamper with 2:32 to play capped the Framingham State scoring.  Junior Brian Suillivan’s (Quincy, Mass.) first career touchdown, a three-yard run with 11 seconds to play, provided the final Massachusetts Maritime points of the afternoon.

McCarthy hauled in 14 receptions for 212 yards to go with his five scores in the win for Framingham State, as the Rams amassed 528 yards of total offense on the day in holding a 208-79 rushing advantage for the contest that included 73 yards on the ground from Van Alystne.  Stanton and fellow freshman quarterback Patrick Viencek (Bernardston, Mass.) combined for 243 yards through the air by completing 19-of-34 passes in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received 79 rushing yards from junior Matt White (Westwood, Mass.) and 101 receiving yards on three receptions from Emond.

Sophomore James Muirhead (Middleboro, Mass.) paced Framingham State defensively with seven total tackles, including four solo stops and a pair of sacks, while senior Anthony Pappagallo (Malden, Mass.) added six total tackles and a sack for the Rams, who won their third straight meeting in the series.  Junior Mike Bois (Lakeville, Mass.) recorded a game-high 11 total tackles, including eight solo stops, in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, while senior Andy Hirko (Uxbridge, Mass.) and junior Walter Butler (Bourne, Mass.) each notched seven total tackles for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Worcester, Mass. next Saturday afternoon to take on Worcester State in a New England Football Conference Bogan Division match-up at Coughlin Field that kicks off at Noon, while Framingham State heads to Fitchburg, Mass. next Saturday afternoon to square off with Fitchburg State in a New England Football Conference Bogan Division clash that kicks off at 1:30 p.m.
