Maritime Drops Conference Opening Series to Owls at Home
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers hosted Westfield State in the second and third games of their conference opening series on Saturday on Taylor's Point. After winning the first game of the series on Friday, the Owls swept the Buccaneers on Saturday, 14-5 in game one and 5-3 in extra innings in game two. In the two games, AJ Pietrafesa had a hit in each game to extend his hitting streak to 23 games.

How It Happened
Maritime took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Pietrafesa single, extending his hit streak to 22 games, scoring Leslie. Maritime led 1-0 after one inning of play.
In the top of the second, the Owls bats came alive in a big way as they scored seven runs to take a 7-1 lead. The Buccaneers answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs on a bases loaded walk of Leslie to plate Estrada, then on a Vieira ground out to score Logiudice, and they scored their third run of the inning on a wild pitch to bring in Weir. The Bucs trailed the Owls after two innings, 7-4.
Westfield scored two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth to run the score to 13-4 Owls. Maritime answered in the sixth with one run on a Weir ground out that scored Logiudice to make the score 13-5.
In the top of the seventh, Westfield added one more run and sealed the 14-5 win in game one of the double header and game two of the series.

How It Happened
The buccaneers took another early lead in game one getting a run in the bottom of the first as Leslie scored on a Pietrafesa fielder's choice ground out.
In the top of the third, the Owls tied the game on a Clark sacrifice fly to center to make the score 1-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Bucs pulled ahead again scoring a run on a Logiudice sacrifice to right field scoring Marsden. Maritime led 2-1 after four.
The Bucs extended their lead two two runs, 3-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Freeman single to right that scored Vieira and the Bucs had their largest lead of the day.
In the top of the seventh, Palmer tied the game for the Owls with a two-run home run to center and the game was sent to extra innings with the score 3-3.
After two scoreless extra innings, the Owls scored two runs in the top of the tenth and kept the Buccaneers off the board in the bottom of the inning to take game two, 5-3, and the sweep of the conference series.

The Buccaneers will host Mitchell College on Wednesday, April 3rd at 4pm at Hendy Field.
