Buccaneers Shatter Yards for Yeardley Goal

Buccaneers Shatter Yards for Yeardley Goal

In conjunction with the MASCAC, the Buccaneer Student-Athlete Athletic Committee along with Academy coaches and administrators have been participating in the Yards for Yeardley movement over the last two months. Yards for Yeardley is a movement by The One Love Foundation which was created in memory of former University of Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love to educate young people on healthy and unhealthy relationships. Yards for Yeardley is a national campaign to get people moving and pledging yards, and in many cases doing fundraisers, to raise awareness and funds for the fight against relationship violence. For more information on the One Love Foundation visit joineonelove.org.

The Buccaneers initially pledged 80,000 yards to Yards for Yeardley when working with the MASCAC during D3 week. The Buccaneer community nailed the 80,000 yard goal at the end of D3 week at the end of April 19th and the pledge was raised to 100,000. With the Yard for Yeardley campaign coming to a close on Sunday, May 3rd the Buccaneers have again gone above and beyond recording more than 209,000 yards, nearly 119 miles.

Thanks to SAAC co-Presidents George Lampros and Lucia Buzzell and the rest of the SAAC officers, our community has banded together for this incredible cause. With their help and involvement, 26 student-athletes, teams, coaches and administrators participated in this movement. Those participants averaged 4.5 miles and 8,000 steps each!

Thank you to everyone who got up and got moving for this incredible cause.
