MacVarish Collects Second Straight, Third Overall MASCAC Men's Cross Country Rookie Of The Week Honor

Massachusetts Maritime freshman James MacVarish earned his second straight and third overall Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week honor on Sunday evening, as he helped lead the Buccaneers to a runner-up team performance at the Community College of Rhode Island Tri-State Invitational on Saturday.

A native of Braintree, Mass. and a graduate of Norfolk County Agricultural High School, MacVarish placed sixth individually with a time of 28:21.43 over the 8K course at CCRI, as he paced Head Coach Chris Ryan’s squad for a fifth straight race and enabled Massachusetts Maritime to tie Eastern Connecticut for the runner-up spot behind Wheaton in the competition.

MacVarish also earned the MASCAC Rookie of the Week nod last Sunday after a 10th place individual finish at the Elms Blazer Invitational, and he collected his first league accolade on September 15th after a 20th place individual performance at the University of New England Invitational.

Ryan’s Buccaneers return to action next Saturday morning at the Westfield State James Earley Invitational in Westfield, Mass. beginning at Noon EDT.
