Cressy Field, North Dartmouth, Mass.

FINAL:              UMASS DARTMOUTH 8, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 6

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Junior Jordan Torres (New Bedford, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points, while senior Matt LaFond (Bridgewater, Mass.) made 16 saves in goal to lead UMass Dartmouth to an 8-6 non-league college men's lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Cressy Field.

The two teams battled to a 4-4 draw at the break before the host Corsairs (3-7) netted three third quarter goals, including the go-ahead marker off the stick of senior Austin Titus (Gloucester, Mass.), to take a 7-5 edge into the final frame.  Senior Sean Peters (Medway, Mass.) capped a four-goal UMass Dartmouth run with a marker that came with 7:18 remaining to give the hosts an 8-5 advantage, and after freshman Franklin Ragge (Scituate, Mass.) sliced the visiting Buccaneers (4-4) deficit back to two just 48 seconds later, neither team found the back of the net over the last six minutes of action despite each having three solid scoring chances during that time span.

Peters finished with a pair of goals in the win for the Corsairs, who also received a marker and helper each from senior Anthony Gallo (Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Donovan Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.).  Junior D.J. Miller (Ashland, Mass.) also tallied on the night for UMass Dartmouth, while LaFond recorded nearly half (seven) of his saves in the second quarter alone to earn his third victory in goal.

Sophomore Kenny Parnell (Marshfield, Mass.) netted two goals in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a marker and helper from freshman Benjamin Avakian (Bourne, Mass.) on the evening.  Senior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) and junior Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.) also tallied for the Buccaneers, who received an assist from senior Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.) and an 11-save effort in goal from sophomore Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.).  The Corsairs held a 37-31 edge in overall shots for the contest, but the Buccaneers won 12 of 17 faceoffs on the night.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Babson Park, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Babson in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference outing beginning at 3:00 p.m., while UMass Dartmouth hosts Southern Maine in a Little East Conference clash on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field that begins at 1:00 p.m.
