FINAL:              CLARK 12, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 6

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Will Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.) and sophomore Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.) each netted a hat trick and an assist for four points as Clark erased a two-goal third quarter deficit to post a 12-6 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Cougars (10-3, 4-0 NEWMAC) jumped out to a 3-1 first quarter advantage on the strength of two tallies from King, but the host Buccaneers (4-6, 0-3 NEWMAC) used three unanswered markers of the first 9:42 of the second stanza to take a 4-3 edge on freshman Benjamin Avakian’s (Bourne, Mass.) goal.  Mandracchia forged a 4-4 draw at the break for Clark with a goal that came with 4:20 remaining in the half, and Massachusetts Maritime grabbed a 6-4 lead in the opening 8:37 after intermission on tallies by sophomore Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Franklin Ragge (Scituate, Mass.).  The Cougars sliced their deficit in half on sophomore Jack Pierce’s (Westboro, Mass.) goal with 5:06 to play in the third quarter, and that marker sparked an 8-0 Clark run that featured seven unanswered fourth quarter scores (including two by Mandracchia) to account for the final margin.

Pierce finished with a pair of goals and three assists for five points in the win for the Cougars, who received a marker and two helpers each from senior Jack Goracy (West Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Chris Rasco (Huntington, N.Y.).  Senior Andrew Myhre (Middlebury, Vt.) and freshman Bobby Philbin (Ridgefield, Conn.) also tallied on the night for the visitors, who received an assist off the stick of senior Ryan MacNeil (Weymouth, Mass.).

Avakian finished with a pair of goals and an assist in the setback for the Buccaneers, which also received markers from sophomore Kenny Parnell (Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore Sean Flaherty (South Weymouth, Mass.).  Powers added an assist to go with his tally for the host, who also received a helper off the stick of senior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.).

Senior Drew Riopelle-Tyrrell (Northville, Mich.) picked up the win in goal with an eight save effort for Clark, while sophomore Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) made nine stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Cougars outshot the Buccaneers by a 31-25 margin overall and held a 17-5 edge in the face-off circle for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts MIT in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference outing on Saturday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Clark heads to Babson Park, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Babson in a NEWMAC match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
