BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) scored four goals and added five assists for nine points to lead MIT to a 16-10 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

The visiting Engineers (9-4, 4-1 NEWMAC) raced out to a 7-1 first quarter advantage on the strength of a hat trick by Davis, and MIT built a 10-4 edge at the break before taking its largest lead of the night (13-4) on senior Harris Stolzenberg’s (Weston, Fla.) man-up marker 4:29 after intermission.  Stolzenberg added four tallies and three assists to finish with seven points for the Engineers, who received four goals from freshman Jack Strachan (Moresville, N.C.) along with a pair of tallies and a helper from senior Michael Traub (Aliso Viejo, Calif.).  Freshman Aidan Westley (Palos Verdes, Calif.) also chipped in with two goals for MIT, which received single assists off the sticks of junior Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.), sophomore Mitchell Galer (Westlake Village, Calif.) and freshman Jameson Kief (Plantsville, Conn.).

 

Freshman Benjamin Avakian (Bourne, Mass.) netted four goals in the setback for the host Buccaneers (4-7, 0-4 NEWMAC), who also received a marker and two assists each from senior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass.).  Junior Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Zack O’Brien (Lakeville, Mass.) each added a goal and an assist for Massachusetts Maritime, which received tallies from senior Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Ben Barattini (Osterville, Mass.) and a helper off the stick of sophomore Jake O’Riordan (Marshfield, Mass.).

 

Sophomore Alexander Lynch (Roswell, Ga.) picked up his eighth win of the season with a 14-save effort in goal for MIT, while sophomore Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) also made 14 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Engineers outshot the Buccaneers by a 47-35 margin overall and held a 17-12 edge in the face-off circle for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to New London, Conn. on Wednesday evening to take on Coast Guard in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m., while MIT hosts Wheaton in a NEWMAC outing on Wednesday evening in Cambridge, Mass. that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
