How It Happened

Dartmouth scored first in the game with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. It took 15 plays, 62 yards and sven minutes as the Corsairs capped off the drive with a two-yard touchdown pass from Gacioch to Gonzalez. Not kicking the extra point, the Corsairs went for two and were unsuccessful, settling for a 6-0 lead. That 6-0 score was also the score at the end of the first.

The second quarter featured a Buccaneer 35-yard field goal from Lampros with 10:26 left before the break to cut the deficit in half, 6-3. Following a lot of defense and squandered drives by both teams, Dartmouth took the ball down field and scored to top off a 12-play, 67-yard drive with a Vincent to Aviles-Santos touchdown pass off the double reverse. After another failed two-point conversion attempt the Corsairs extended their lead to 12-3. That 12-3 score took the teams in to the hafltime break.

In the third, the hosts extended their lead to 17 points with 5:25 left in the quarter on a 49-yard strike from Aviles-Santos to Brown. Down 17, the Bucs chipped at the Corsair lead scoring on a 33-yard swing pass from Cann to Mitchell. Mitchell scurried by two defenders, tip-toed the sideline and scampered in to the end zone for the touchdown. Lampros converted the extra point to make the score 20-10 at the end of three quarters of play.

The Buccaneers kept pushing offensively. A couple of miscues led to a Jean 6-yard touchdown run with 7:46 left in the game. That game the Corsairs enough momentum to hold off the Bucs from making a comback. The game finished 26-10 in favor of UMass Dartmouth.
