Eleven Buccaneers Earn Respective Spots On 2012 New England Football Conference All-Bogan Division Team

Buzzards Bay, Mass. --  Eleven members of the Massachusetts Maritime football team have been honored with selection to the 2012 New England Football Conference All-Bogan Division squad that was announced earlier today by Roger Crosley, the NEFC’s Director of Media Relations, as the Buccaneers placed four individuals on their respective offensive and defensive first team all-divisional squads.

Senior defensive back Eddy Ramos (Sunny Isles, Fla./Michael Krop) heads the list of first team honorees for Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s crew, as he also earned all-Bogan Division honors as a junior.  Ramos led Massachusetts Maritime with five interceptions while adding six break-ups for 11 total passes defended, as he ranked 40th nationally in Division III in picks and 62nd nationally in passes defended.

Fellow seniors Barry Reopell (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth), Bryan Norberg (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Christopher Flynn (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) represent the Buccaneer first team honorees on the offensive side, as Reopell ranked second on the team with 670 rushing yards and five touchdowns this fall, while Norberg and Flynn anchored an offensive unit at center and tackle, respectively, that averaged 520.7 yards of total offense per game, ranking as high as second nationally in Division III in that category earlier this season and currently ranking seventh best in the country.

Massachusetts Maritime had seven student-athletes represented on the second team All-Bogan Division squad, with four coming on the defensive side of the ball.  Senior Evan Sheridan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and sophomore Kevin Stanton (Abington, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) earned second team accolades at defensive back, as Sheridan ranked second on the squad in total tackles with 53 while tying Ramos with 11 passes defended (including a pair of interceptions).  Stanton ranked third on the team with 50 total tackles in seven contests, as he registered a pick and four total passes defended during a season that saw him earn a spot on the D3Football.com Team of the Week following his 14-tackle performance in a 42-38 win over Coast Guard on September 22nd.

Junior Robert Gratzer (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) and sophomore Zachary Ryan (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) were tabbed to the Bogan Division second team defensive line group for the Buccaneers, as Ryan registered 42 total tackles to go with a team-best three six while adding six passes defended, including an interception.  Gratzer added 18 total stops (15 solo) and led Massachusetts Maritime with a pair of fumble recoveries on the fall.

Junior Keith Caruso (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and sophomore E.J. Bennett (East Wareham, Mass./Wareham) were named as the second team Bogan Division receivers, as Bennett set school single-season records for receptions (59) and receiving yards (857) to go with seven touchdowns, while Caruso was right behind with 56 catches and 726 receiving yards while making four trips to the end zone.  Bennett ranked 36th in receptions per game and 30th in receiving yards per game nationally in Division III, while Caruso was rated 52nd and 65th in those respective categories and joined Stanton the September 26th’s D3Football.com Team of the Week after a 12-reception performance against Coast Guard.

The final Massachusetts Maritime representative on this year’s NEFC All-Divisional squad is junior Stefan Gustafson (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South), who was one of the second team running backs.  Gustafson led the Buccaneers with 701 yards in seven contests (100.1 per game) while adding five touchdowns, including 216 yards in the win over Coast Guard, and he ranked 43rd nationally in Division III in rushing yards per contest.  Gustafson earns his second divisional honor in three years, as he was named as the NEFC Bogan Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2010.

Massachusetts Maritime registered its second straight 5-4 campaign under Cameron’s tutelage, as the Buccaneers have notched three straight winning seasons for the first time since 1998-2000 and either broke or tied 17 different school records this fall.
