Laux Scores First Career Goal in Loss to Corsairs

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers played host to non-conference opponent UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. The Corsairs scored an early goal and held a 1-0 lead for over 35 minutes before Matilda Laux scored her first career goal to tie the game at 1-1. The Corsairs went on to score two more times and take the match by a 3-1 final.

How It Happened

The Corsairs opened the scoring 16 minutes in on Nguyen's goal to make it 1-0. The Bucs kept the Corsairs from scoring again in the first half and Maritime was unable to find the back of the net as well, leaving the game at 1-0 UMD at the end of the first half.

In the second half, just over seven minutes in, Santoro delivered a beautiful ball into the box where Laux was crashing the net. Diving feet first she connected with the ball and buried it in the right corner to tie the game at 1-1 in the 53rd minute. The tie lasted five minutes as the Corsairs scored in the 58th minute off the foot of Jaeger giving her team a 2-1 advantage. The Bucs remained on the attack but were unable to tie the game once again. In the 77th minute, UMD added an insurance goal with Sheehan scoring from Nguyen. The Corsairs held on to the 3-1 advantage and headed back to the South Coast with a 3-1 victory over Maritime.

The Bucs are back home for their next game on Wednesday when they will face Rhode Island College at 7pm.
