MILTON, Mass -- Women's Lacrosse traveled to Curry College on Saturday morning to take on the Colonels and left Milton with a 15-6 victory behind five goals from Sarah Naar and four from Cassie Llewellyn

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Sarah Naar led all scorers with five goals in the game. Cassie Llewellyn added four scores.
  • Lindsy DurginAllie Dickinson, and Caleigh Tompkins all scored twice. 
  • Dickinson led the way with three assists in the win. Llewellyn added two helpers and Naar recorded one.
  • Naar led the team in ground balls with five.
  • On the draw, Llewellyn tallied 12 draw controls for the Bucs.

Curry

  • Grayson Goolgasian and Ellie Hardman each scored two times. Ava Doyle and Casey Conneely both scored once.
  • Natalie Keenan recorded two assists and four other Colonels tallied one.
  • Goolgasian picked up a team-high three ground balls for Curry in the loss.
  • Keenan tallied three draw controls to lead the team. 
  • Defensively, Goolgasian led the team with two caused turnovers.
  • In total, Curry picked up 16 ground balls, were successful on 16-of-27 clearance chances, won six draw controls, did not have a free position attempt, and took 17 total shots in the game.

How It Happened

Curry jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter with goals from Conneely at 10:54 and one from Goolasian at 8:36. Naar put the Bucs on the board at 8:06 and the remainder of the quarter belonged to Maritime. Llewellyn, Durgin, and Dickinson each scored over the final 5:24 of the quarter and the Bucs led 4-2 at the end of one.

Maritime extended their goal run to six in the second quarter with a goal from Llewellyn and one from Tompins. Halfway through the second, the Bucs led the Colonels, 6-2. Curry scored with 6:05 from Doyle to cut the deficit to three goals and Hardman added a score with 18 seconds left in the half to cut the Bucs lead to two goals, 6-4, at the halftime break.

Tompkins scored her second a little over two minutes into the second half to put the Buccaneers back up three goals, 7-4, and Curry answered a little over a minute later to make the score 7-5. Maritime proceeded to go on a 4-0 run getting three goals from Naar and one from Dickinson sandwich in between. All four of the goals were scored in a three-minute span and with 8:13 left in the third Maritime led 11-5. Curry closed out the third with a goal of their own from Hardman and the Colonels trailed at the end of three, 11-6.

In the final quarter of regulation, the Bucs scored the only goals and their defense stood strong against their hosts. Llewellyn scored the first two of the quarter at 13:17 and 12:27, Naar scored at 7:35 and Durgin capped off the win with a goal at 2:29. The Buccaneers left Curry with their third win of the season, 15-6, over the Colonels.

 

What's Next

Maritime will host Bridgewater State on Tuesday, MArch 26th at 7pm. The game will be preceded by a Senior Night celebration for the rostered seniors.
