Sailing Finishes 14th and 15th at Weekend Events
BOSTON, Mass -- This past weekend, the Buccaneers sailing team competed at the Smith Trophy, hosted by MIT, and at the BU Invite at Boston University. The Bucs picked up two top 15 finishes wit ha 14th place finish in the Smith Trophy and a 15th place finish at BU.
In the smith trophy, the Bucs finished with 290 total points in their 14th place finish. They were 11 points ahead of Vermont with 301 points and missed out on 13th place by 81 points to MIT's third boat. In the 20 events in the Trophy lineup, the Buccaneers had four top 10 finishes helping them to their 14th place spot. Tufts took home first with 97 points, MIT's first boat was second with 110, and Boston College finished third with 117 points.
At the BU Invite, the Buccaneers finished 15th overall with 181 points, 39 points behind Northeastern in 14th and 14 points ahead of Wentworth in 16th. Maritime struggled to pick up any top 10 finishes and did enough in their last race with a 13th place finish to propel themselve in to 15th. Tufts won the BU Invite with two Brown University boats in second and third with 53 points each.
Maritime's sailing squad has three events for the first weekend of October. They will head to Bowdoin in Maine and Salve Regina in Rhode Island and will also be hosting the Great Herring Pond Open in Plymouth at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center on Saturday and Sunday.
