Buccaneers Snag a Pair of Top Five Finishes

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers dinghy sailing team competed in the Callagy Ross Regatta at the University of Vermont and the Sald Pond Invite at the University of Rhode Island over the weekend and picked up a pair of top five finishes in the two regattas.

In the Callagy Ross Regatta, Maritime finished fifth out of nine boats with a score of 173 points. They finished 51 points ahead of the sixth placed finishers from Bates College and were 20 points out of fourth place, held by Boston University. The Bucs had seven top five finishes in the 20 events in the regatta including a second place finish and two third place spots. The two Boats from UVM took home first and second place with 54 and 159 points respectively with the Top boat running away with the whole regatta. Northeastern came in third with 151 points.

At the Salt Pond Invite the Buccaneers came in fifth place out of 11 boats with 78 points. They finished two points short of the UVM boat in fourth and were 16 points ahead of the BU shell in sixth with 94 points. In the 14 events during the Invite, Maritime had five top five finishes in the events with three second place spots and two third place finishes. Host URI won the regatta with 28 points, 16 points clear of Roger Williams in second and Coast Guard rounded out the top three with 48 points.
