McCarthy Named To D3football.com National Team Of The Week For Efforts In Plymouth State Victory

After collecting regional honors for his performance in last Saturday’s 48-27 victory over Plymouth State, Massachusetts Maritime junior linebacker Marshall McCarthy earned national recognition earlier today with selection to this week’s D3football.com National Team of the Week.

McCarthy, a native of Duxbury, Mass. and a graduate of Duxbury High School, amassed a career-high 14 total tackles that included 12 solo stops, 4 ½ tackles for losses totaling 15 yards and a pair of sacks for nine yards.  Additionally, Marshall recorded his first career interception (with a 10-yard return) and added a pair of quarterback hurries on the day, and for his efforts he was tabbed as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

McCarthy leads Massachusetts Maritime with 89 total tackles that includes 63 solo stops and 13 for losses of 39 yards.  He has also recorded four sacks and four quarterback hurries while defending five passes, and he ranks sixth nationally in NCAA Division III play in solo tackles heading into the final weekend of the season.

McCarthy’s selection marks the second time this season that the Buccaneers have been represented on the D3football.com National Team of the Week.  Massachusetts Maritime’s offensive line comprised of seniors Andrew Bochman (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South) and Jeff Wallace (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), junior Adam Banks (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) and sophomores Matt Basler (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) and Ethan Rooney (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) was tabbed as the National Offensive Line of the Week following a 48-13 season-opening Chowder Bowl victory over SUNY-Maritime in which the Buccaneers amassed 541 yards of total offense on 80 plays from scrimmage.

Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s squad closes out its 2015 slate on Saturday afternoon when Massachusetts Maritime renews its longstanding rivalry with Bridgewater State in the 37th Annual Cranberry Bowl Presented By Ocean Spray at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks off at Noon EST.
