Rosano, Notarangelo Named As MASCAC Baseball Co-Player, Pitcher Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime sophomores Bobby Rosano and T.J. Notarangelo were named on Sunday evening as the respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Co-Player and Pitcher of the Week for their efforts in four contests for the Buccaneers last week.

Rosano, a native of North Reading, Mass. and a graduate of North Reading High School, batted .400 (6-15) with three RBI and five stolen bases on the week, including three hits each in Massachusetts Maritime’s conference doubleheader sweep at Fitchburg State.  Rosano knocked in the winning run in the eighth inning of a 7-6 opening game triumph, and he made a pair of stellar defensive plays in a 7-0 nightcap victory.  Rosano, who shared MASCAC Player of the Week honors with Bridgewater State’s Sean Riley, has started all 18 games at shortstop this season for the Buccaneers and leads the team with a .383 average at the plate that also includes 10 stolen bases.

Notarangelo, a native of Foxboro, Mass. and a graduate of Foxboro High School, tossed the fifth no-hitter in school history and the first in 11 years on Sunday afternoon in the 7-0 nightcap triumph at Fitchburg State, as he overcame four walks and struck out two to record the gem.  Notarangelo’s no-no was the first for Massachusetts Maritime since George Scharrenwebber turned the trick at Westfield State on April 6, 2002, as he retired the side in order on four occasions and threw 54 of his 90 pitches on the day for strikes.  On the season, Notarangelo is 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA (best among Buccaneer starters), and he is holding opponents to a .133 batting average in 30 innings of work.

Massachusetts Maritime, which is 7-11 overall and tied for third place in the MASCAC standings at 3-3 under 41-yar Head Coach Bob Corradi’s guidance, hosts Westfield State in league twinbill on Patriots Day at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at Noon.
