FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 17, MITCHELL 6

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) netted five goals and an assist for six points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 17-6 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Mitchell Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Buccaneers (4-2) jumped out to leads of 4-2 and 6-3 in the opening 5:25 of action before scoring the final eight goals of the half, including four by Solari and two from freshman Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.), to build a 14-3 advantage at the break.  Markers by sophomores Melissa Harris (Scituate, Mass.) and Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) in the opening 14 minutes after intermission gave Massachusetts Maritime its largest cushion of the contest and enabled the hosts to surpass the school single-season mark for victories just six matches into their fourth varsity campaign.

Pingree notched a hat trick and an assist to finish with four points for the Buccaneers, who also received two goals and three assists each from junior Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) in the triumph.  Sophomore Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) also tallied twice in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a goal from sophomore Sinead McNaboe (Leicester, Mass.) and a pair of assists from sophomore Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).

Sophomore Ashley Murtha (South Windsor, Conn.) scored four goals in the setback for the visiting Mariners (0-5), who also received single markers off the sticks of freshmen Christina Jando (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Tiana Fillmore (Norwich, Conn.).  Freshman Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up her third win of the season without having to make a first half save in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received four second stops from senior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.), while sophomore Taylor Dansereau (Griswold, Conn.) made five saves in the setback for Mitchell.  The Buccaneers outshot the Mariners by a 25-11 margin and held a 16-9 advantage in draw controls on the evening.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Mitchell heads to Hartford, Conn. on Monday afternoon to take on Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m.
