FINAL:              TUFTS 9, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

NORTHBORO, Mass. --  Junior Matt Moser (Great Falls, Va.) rapped out three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead Tufts to a 9-0 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday afternoon on the turf at the New England Baseball Complex.

The Jumbos (9-3) plated all of the runs they would need with two outs in their first at-bat, as Moser drove in a pair with a ground-rule double and junior Kevin Godin (Canton, Mass.) followed with a two-run single.  Tufts extended its lead to 5-0 in the third on senior Bryan Egan’s (Watervliet, N.Y.) RBI single, and the Jumbos tacked on a pair of tallies in the sixth on senior James Howard’s (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) double and a fielding error.  Tufts closed out the scoring with single runs in the seventh and eighth frames, as sophomore Tom Petry (Worcester, Mass.) and freshman Tommy O’Hara (Glenview, Ill.) collected RBI singles to account for the final score.

O’Hara and Howard added two hits each as part of an 11-hit attack in the triumph for Tufts, which earned its fifth straight victory after receiving votes in this week’s d3baseball.com/NCBWA Division III national poll.  Sophomore Charlie McQuinn (Moorpark, Calif.), the first of seven Jumbo pitchers, earned his first victory of the spring by tossing two scoreless opening innings and striking out a pair.  Senior Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.), junior Everett Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and freshmen Tyler Chaisson (Newburyport, Mass.), Cobie Gerbis (Holmes Beach, Fla.) and William Keane (Braintree, Mass.) each rapped outs hits in the setback for the Buccaneers (4-4), who saw their two-game winning streak come to an end.  Junior Kevin Kwedor (Marshfield, Mass.) allowed five runs over the first 2 1/3 innings on the mound for Massachusetts Maritime, falling to 2-1 on the season with the decision.

Massachusetts Maritime is scheduled to open Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader at Worcester State on Saturday afternoon, while Tufts will host Bowdoin in a New England Small College Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex beginning at 2:00 p.m.
