Buccaneers Blank Falcons in Home Opener

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers opened their home schedule on Wednesday afternoon with a double header against Fisher College at Rollins Field. Maritime didn't allow a run to the Falcons winning game one 34-0 and game two 15-0. The 34 runs in a game and 49 runs in a doubleheader are program records for Buccaneer softball.

 

Game One

At The Plate

Maritime

  • Captain Malarie Pittsley and Kylie Deasy each had four hits in the game.
  • Each player in the lineup had at least one hit including DiDomenico with three, Abby PopeRubi ButlerMikayla Hunter, and Maia Ostromecki with two each.
  • Deasy drove in six runs while Ostromecki drove in five and Pittsley and DiDomenico each drove in four.
  • Deasy and Ostromecki each had doubles in the game. 
  • The Bucs racked up 13 walks in the win including two each from Pope, Kayley Wright, Deasy,, Carleen Harring, and DiDomenico.
  • Pope stole two bags in the win.

Fisher

  • Linda Martinez had the lone hit in the game for the Falcons. 
  • Stephanie Faiella, Naomi Mares, Letty Chavez-Rendon and Ashleigh Onfroy each drew walks in the game.

 

How'd It Happen

The Buccaneers scored 11 runs in the first inning that started with Pope scoring on a wild pitch and ended with DiDomenico singling to right ro score Deasy.

Maritime added five in the second to make it 16-0 after two.

In the third the runs kept coming as the Bucs plated 15 more runs to take a 31-0 lead after three innings.

The Bucs did add three more in the fourth and then sat down the Falcons in order in the top of the fifth to take the win 34-0.

Maritime

  • Maritime totaled eight hits in the game with two each from Olivia CameloMaia Ostromecki, and Carleen Harring.
  • Camelo drove in a game-high four runs with Ostromecki driving in three and Harring and Pope driving in two each. Mikayla Hunter drove in a run as well.
  • Hunter and Camelo hit the team's two extra base hits, a double and a triple respectively. 
  • Camelo, Rubi ButlerSicily DiDomenicoKayley Wright and Harring each stole bases in the win. Harring stole three.
  • The Buccaneers drew nine walks in the game, Pope, Butler and Wright with two each.

Fisher

  • Kelley had the only hit in the game for the Falcons, a triple.

 

How It Happened

The Buccaneers picked up where they left off in game one scoring twice in the first and adding three more in the second, two of which came on Camelo's triple down the left field line.

Leading 5-0 after two, Maritime kept the Falcons off the board and scored four more to take a 9-0 advantage.

They finished off the game in the fourth scoring six more runs to make it 15-0 which would prove to be the final score after the Bucs set down Fisher in the top of the fifth.
