Softball Loses Senior Day Pair to Worcester

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Saturday afternoon, the Buccaneers hosted Worcester State in a senior day doubleheader at Rollins Field. Prior to game one the Bucs honored the careers of seniors Savanna Leite (New Bedford, Mass), Lucia Buzzell (Quincy, Mass), and Madison Coughlin (Monroe, Conn). Maritime went on to drop game one 7-3, and game two finished 12-3 in 6 innings in favor of the Lancers.

At The Plate

For The Bucs

  • Abby Pope (Falmouth, Mass) had two hits for the Bucs in game one with a run scored.
  • Junior captain Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass) went 1-for-1 at the plate with two RBI, a run scored, a walk and a sacrifice bunt.
  • Camryn Roberts-Capak (Barnstable, Mass), Maia Ostromecki (Barre, Mass), and Marchela Corolla (New Haven, Conn) each had a hit in the game. Ostromecki added an RBI to her stat line.
  •  Carolla and Pittsley recorded extra base hits for the Bucs, a triple and double respectively.
  • Abby Pope stole a base in the loss.

 

For The Lancers

  • Outfielder Liv Larson went 3-for-3 in game one with two RBI and three runs scored from the nine spot in the lineup.
  • Grace Adams, Emily Bartlett and Lauren Dube all had multi-hit games for the Lancers.
  • Samantha Stake and Rachel Bigelow each recorded hit in the game.
  • Stake and Dube each hit doubles, and Larson recorded a triple.
  • Grace Adams and Liv Larson also each stole a base in the win.

 

How It Happened

  • Worcester opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, scoring three runs on a groundout, the Larson triple and an infield single that scored Larson.
  • The Bucs were held in the bottom of the second though they would strike in the bottom of the third. They scored three runs to tie the game at 3-3 on a Pittsley double and an Ostromecki single.
  • That would be all the scoring for the Bucs as the Lancers went on to take the lead in the top of the fifth inning on Stake's double.
  • They added three more runs in the sixth, taking a 7-3 lead which would end up being the final of game one.

Records: Worcester (5-12-1), Maritime (0-8)

At The Plate

Maritime

  • The four hits in the game for the Bucs came of the bats of Roberts-Capak, Pope, Leite and Mikayla Hunter (Marshfield, Mass). It was the first hit of Hunter's career.
  • Roberts-Capak, Pope and Megan Turley (Marshfield, Mass) scored the runs in the game for the Bucs.
  • Leite's hit was the only extra base hit of the game for Maritime, a double.
  • Leite stole two bases, Robert-Capak stole one in the loss.

 

Worcester

  • The Lancers put together 17 hits in game two, three apiece from Adams, Stake and Rachel Sinclair.
  • Bartlett, Brynna Meeker and Jen Thorburn all had two-hit games.
  • Bigelow and Larson each had one hit.
  • None of the Lancer hits were of the extra base variety.
  • Eight different players scored in the win for Worcester with five different players driving in runs.
  • Adams, Stake and Thorburn each stole a base in the win.

How it Happened

  • The Buccaneers got on the board first in game two, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. Both runs came across due to throwing errors by the pitcher.
  • Down 2-0 in the second, the Lancers scored three times to take a 3-2 after one and a half innings played.
  • No one scored again until the bottom of the fifth when the Bucs tied the game at 3-3 on a wild pitch that scored Turley.
  • With the game tied after six, things were looking up for the Bucs until the Worcester bats got hot in the top of the sixth. The Lancers went on to score nine runs in the inning on seven hits and a bases loaded walk.
  • Unable to get the game back within eight runs in the bottom of the sixth, the game ended due to the eight-run rule, 12-3 in favor of the Lancers.
