How It Happened

After a clean first inning for both pitchers, Westfield broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning on a Coughlin error that scored Meunier. The Owls took a modest 1-0 lead in to the third.

In the third, both teams put up crooked numbers with the Owls scoring their second run on an Arredondo ground out that scored the speedy Cordopatri. Down 2-0, the Buccaneers answered in the bottom of the third on a Coughlin single to right center which scored Pope and Camelo. Earlier, the inning had been extended due to an error causing both of the runs to be unearned for the pitcher Arredondo. After three innings the game was tied at 2-2.

The next three innings were relatively uneventful. Each team threatened in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn't get any runs across. In the sixth, the Bucs has runners on second and third with one out but were not able to bring anyone in to score.

In the seventh, Westfield loaded the bases with one out and Meunier singled to bring in one run. That was followed by Philbrook taking advantage of the bases loaded situation and with two outs in the inning and she doubled, bringing in three runs to take a 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Maritime got a one out bunt single from Roberts-Capak and a single from Pope. After they each stole third and second respectively, Ruginski grounded out to second which brought in one run. With the score 6-3, Coughlin grounded out on a hard hit ball to short to end the game at that same score.

With the win the Owls improved to 6-7 on the season, the Bucs fell to 0-3.

How It Happened

As it was in game one, the first inning was clean for both pitchers. In the second inning, the Owls took a 2-0 lead after a run scored on a wild pitch and on a Carpenter double that scored Philbrook.

With the score 2-0 Westfield, the next two innings were quiet. Both teams went down in order in the third and both threatened in the fourth though no runs came across.

In the fifth inning the Owls extended their lead to 5-0 on a Welch single, a Philbrook foul out that turned in to a Sacrifice fly with the bases load and a Doyle infield single to bring another run in. On the sacrifice fly in foul territory, Pope made an outstanding diving catch in foul territory to get the out. It was the second spectacular defensive play for Pope in the game.

Down 5-0, the Buccaneers found life late in the game. They scored a run on a strange 1-3-2-4 double play that caught Ostromecki in no-man's land. After six inning the Bucs trailed 5-1.

In the seventh, the Buccaneer kept up their momentum from the sixth, getting an RBI triple from Camelo that scored Leite. That was followed by a Roberts-Capak single, scoring Camelo. Now down 5-3, the Bucs had back-to-back round outs to end a second exciting game at Rollins field in the team's home opener.

With the win the Owls improve to 7-7 on the season. The Bucs fall to 0-4 with the loss.
