BOSTON, Mass. --  Freshman Grady Wick (Newton, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points to lead UMass Boston to an 8-4 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon at Clark Athletic Field.

The host Beacons (3-5) scored four times in the opening 15 minutes of play to grab a 4-2 advantage at the break after a scoreless second stanza, and after the visiting Buccaneers (2-8) closed back to within one at 4-3 on junior Will Doucette’s (Manchester, Mass.) goal 4:40 after intermission, UMass Boston took control of the match with three tallies in the final 5:01 of the third quarter, including man-up markers off the sticks of Wick and freshman Tommy Petitti (Quincy, Mass.), to take a 7-3 edge into a final stanza that saw the teams trade goals to account for the final score.

Petitti and junior Rob Uhrig (Boston, Mass.) added a pair of goals each in the triumph for the Beacons, who also received a marker and two assists off the stick of freshman John Perro (Northbridge, Mass.).  Junior Ryan FitzGerald (Abington, Mass.) accounted for the other tally of the day for UMass Boston, which also received single helpers from junior Pat Driscoll (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman Dean Driscoll (Cohasset, Mass.).

Seniors Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) each notched a goal and assist in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a marker from senior Chris Davis (Cohasset, Mass.) and a helper from sophomore Kevin Flanigan (Sandwich, Mass.).

Junior Anthony Fitti (Havertown, Pa.) picked up the win in goal for UMass Boston with a 13-save effort, while freshman Jack Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) made 11 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Buccaneers outshot the Beacons by a 34-33 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts MIT in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League match on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m., while UMass Boston heads to Willimantic, Conn. on Saturday afternoon to take on Eastern Connecticut in a Little East Conference match that begins at 4:00 p.m.
