BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) scored a career-high eight goals, while freshman Chris Bergau (Merritt Island, Fla.) added a hat trick and three assists to lead Massachusetts Maritime to an 18-5 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Regis Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Buccaneers (4-12) jumped out to a 4-3 first quarter advantage, but the visiting Pride (3-7) evened matters just 40 seconds into the second stanza on freshman Matt Vogan’s (Belmont, Mass.) marker.  Massachusetts Maritime scored the final five markers of the half, including a pair off the stick of sophomore James Burns (Duxbury, Mass.), to take a 9-4 advantage at the break, and after sophomore Bradford Hastings’ (Mansfield, Mass.) second goal of the night sliced Regis’ deficit to four, the Buccaneers tallied nine unanswered goals over the remaining 29-plus minutes of play, including a stretch of four straight and six of seven scored by Doucette over a 10-minute span in the third and fourth quarters to ice their triumph.

Senior Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) added a goal and four assists in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of markers and an assist from sophomore Kevin Flanigan (Sandwich, Mass.) as well as a marker and three helpers off the stick of senior Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.).  Senior Chris Davis (Cohasset, Mass.) notched a goal and two assists on the night for the Buccaneers, who also received a helper from junior Matt White (Westwood, Mass.).  Vogan collected a goal and an assist in the setback for Regis, which also received single tallies from freshmen Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass.) and John Basbas (Framingham, Mass.) as well as an assist from freshman Matt Molloy (Saugus, Mass.).

Freshman Jack Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with eight saves in 51-plus minutes of play for Massachusetts Maritime, while freshman Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) made nine stops in the setback for Regis as the Buccaneers outshot the Pride by a 47-23 margin in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Massachusetts Maritime closes out its 2011 campaign on Saturday afternoon by hosting Babson in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League match at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Regis entertains Thomas in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon in Weston, Mass. beginning at 4:00 p.m.
