BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Friday night's match against MCLA marked the final regular season match for the Buccaneer volleyball team and senior day at Clean Harbors Athletic Center. Following the celebration of senior Jen Roy (Attleboro, Mass), the Buccaneers battled hard in the first two sets, but MCLA was too much, sweeping the Bucs, 3-0, to claim the sixth and final spot in the MASCAC playoffs.

For the Bucs, Roy led the match with 12 kills on her senior night. Junior, Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass) recorded six digs of her own and defensively racked up 15 digs. Maritime Libero and first player in history to reach 1,000 digs, Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass), led the match with 22 digs defensively. Offensively, Ruggeri and junior Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass) tied for the team lead in service aces with two apiece. Sheehan also helped out with 18 assists in the match.

The Trailblazers received 10 kill, to lead the match, from Alyssa Keegan. Keegan had 13 digs defensively, good for second on the team. 'Blazers libero Celine Manigbas and Tessa Sestito each had 15 digs to lead their team. Sestito also led the match with 23 assists on the night.

Each of the first two sets went back and forth between the teams. The teams had to go over the 25 point mark to decide the set winner. Each team had a lead in the set and though MCLA trailed at one point, 23-19, they were able to storm back to tie the set at 24. At that point, they scored two consecutive points, capping a 7-1 run to steal the first set, 26-24.

Set two, like the first game, was filled with lead changes. Once again, Maritime held a late lead, 23-21 but thanks to three consecutive kills, two from Keegan and another by Sara LaFreniere, the Trailblazers scored four consecutive points to take the set, 25-23.

To begin the third set, with the help of three Sestito aces, MCLA jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Bucs would follow that run with a 4-0 run of their own to pull within tow.  Subsequently, the Bucs were outscored 17-9 over the remainder of the set as MCLA took the third game, 25-15, and the game 3-0.

With the loss, the Bucs fall to 2-19 on the season, 1-6 in the MASCAC. The Trailblazers improve to 8-17 overall, 2-5 in conference and have secured the sixth and final spot in the MASCAC playoffs with the win.
