Sullivan Nets Another Five Markers in MASCAC Loss

WORCESTER, Mass. – Casey Sullivan continued her red-hot streak with five goals, while recent Division-III Week Athlete of the Day Stephanie Hunt added five helpers, but Massachusetts Maritime Academy took a tough 15-6 loss in women's lacrosse. The decision dropped the Buccaneers to 0-2 in the MASCAC, the third loss in-a-row for the squad.

Massachusetts Maritime took the first lead of the game on a goal from Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass.), assisted by Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.). Worcester State came back attacking and went on an 8-0 run led by Kaylee Krajewski to attain a 7-point lead with 7:20 remaining in the first half.

The Buccaneers broke the Lancers' scoring binge with a goal from Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass.) with just over six minutes remaining. Worcester State's Taylor Dube and MMA's Sullivan each had two goals in the final five minutes of the first half for a 10-4 score going into the break.

The Lancers scored four consecutive goals during the first 15 minutes of the second half, two of which were from Dube. Sullivan scored her fourth goal of the day after MMA lost a player to a penalty with 9:49 to go in the second to stop the running clock and set the score at 14-5. Worcester's Hannah Sledzieski scored her first collegiate goal, and then the Bucs' Sullivan capped off the day with her fifth goal of the day on another helper from Hunt for a 15-6 final score.

Sullivan's five markers make 20 in her last four games and 29 on the season, tied for fourth in the MASCAC despite the first-year having played in fewer games than any players above her. Hunt now has 25 assists and 48 points, both third in the conference. Hunt caused a game-high six turnovers, winning five draws, while Massachusetts Maritime's Deely also grabbed five draw controls. Worcester State held the advantage in draw controls (10-12) and ground balls (42-28), while the clubs combined for 60 turnovers.

Maritime resumes actions on Tuesday as it hosts Dean at 7 p.m. In the meantime, bookmark www.mmabucs.com and get the inside scoop on Facebook and Twitter @mmabuccaneers. Plus, check out our new Instagram @massmaritimebuccaneers.
