First-year women's lacrosse player Anna Deely was named the MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week after an incredible two-game performance last week. It is the first weekly award for any Massachusetts Maritime female athlete this spring. 

Deely was a sparkplug for the Buccaneers in two non-conference wins last week, tallying eight goals and four assists for 12 points. She picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers, while taking the reigns from senior Stephanie Hunt as Coach Marc Palombo's face-off specialist. The Marston Mills native netted two goals and two assists with three caused turnovers in the 14-1 win over Newbury College and added six goals and two assists with five ground balls in the 18-3 win over Bay Path University. Her goal-scoring total in the victory over BPU was the most any Buc has scored in a single game this year. 

"Anna deserves it. Everything she is contributing is, in our eyes, wonderful," enthused Head Coach Marc Palombo. "She is a diamond in the rough, we did not see her on our radar at the start of the year. We didn't expect her to be this good, but once we saw her in our fall season we knew she was a find."

"Anna will be ecstatic," added Palombo. "She was a soccer player and no expectations for where she could go in lacrosse, but I have a funny feeling that is changing!"

Stephanie Hunt was also listed on the week's MASCAC Honor Roll as she accumulated nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in a 2-0 week for the Buccaneers. The Brookfield, Conn. product scored five goals with two assists in the 14-1 win over Newbury College and four goals plus a career-high six assists in the 18-3 win over Bay Path. Hunt is now only four points away from 200 in her career. Hunt lost out on MASCAC Player of the Week honors to Worcester State's Alexis Vecchiarelli, who scored 18 goals and had eight helpers in three games last week.

The women now begin a tough part of their schedule, playing the next four games on the road, including three in a five-day span in the upcoming week. First up is Becker (0-3) on Tuesday, while the non-conference early season comes to an end at Wentworth (1-4) on Thursday. MASCAC play begins on Saturday against Salem State (0-4).
