Crew Squads Open Fall Seasons With Solid Performances At Quinsigamond Snake Regatta

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads opened their respective fall schedules with solid performances in a 24-team field that competed at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneer men’s varsity four “A” entry comprised of senior coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.) along seniors Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) and juniors Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.) and James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.), finished 14th overall with a time of 13:57.7, while Massachusetts Maritime’s “B” varsity four shell comprised of freshman coxswain Olivia Swenson (Centerville, Mass.), juniors Thomas Miceli (Unionville, Conn.) and Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.) as well as freshmen Joseph Naron (Montclair, Va.) and John Passaretti (Hingham, Mass.), placed 19th overall with a time of 18:25.9.
The Buccaneer women’s varsity four consisting of junior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), juniors Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.) and Cassandra Charpentier (New Bedford, Mass.) as well as sophomores Christina Brennan (Halifax, Mass.) and Summer Cawley (Riverview, Fla.), posted an 18th place finishing time of 25:59.3 in the competition.
Both Massachusetts Maritime squads head to Cambridge, Mass. next Saturday morning to compete at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River beginning at 9:00 a.m.
