Crew Squads Combine For Trio Of Top Three Performances At Assumption Regatta

WORCESTER, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime men’s crew team recorded a pair of first place performances in competition at the five-team Assumption Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneer women’s squad also notched a third place finish during the event.

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s varsity four comprised of senior coxswain Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.),    seniors James Belbin (Carver, Mass.) and Liam Barry (Wellesley, Mass.) and juniors Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.) and Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.) took top honors with a time of 8:35.20 in the event, as the Buccaneers bested runner-up Roger Williams by five seconds.  Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s novice four comprised of freshman coxswain Austin Wolfe (Wakefield, Mass.) and fellow freshmen Patrick Wall (West Roxbury, Mass.), Nathanael Costa (Forestdale, Mass.), Jacob Bernard (Kensington, Conn.) and J. Nicholas August (Bristol, R.I.) captured the top spot with a time of 8:30.20, as the Buccaneers topped Brandeis by 20 seconds.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity eight consisting of junior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), juniors Rochelle Gaudette (Fall River, Mass.) and Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.), sophomores Christina Brennan (Halifax, Mass.) and Brianna Caissie (Webster, Mass.) as well as freshmen Cameron Harris-Browne (Lebanon, N.J.), Olivia Swenson (Centerville, Mass.), Andie Painten (Walpole, Mass.) and Kaleigh Hoffman (Noblesville, Ind.) posted a third place time of 9:46.21 in the event, as host Assumption took top honors in the race.

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads return to action next Saturday morning by heading to Lowell, Mass. to compete at the Greater Boston Invitational on the Merrimack River beginning at 9:00 a.m.
