Crew Squads Combine For Quartet Of Top Six Finishes At Amherst Fall Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.--  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew teams continued their respective fall campaigns with solid performances at the Amherst Fall Invitational on Saturday afternoon on the Connecticut River, as the Buccaneers recorded a quartet of top six finishes in competition.

 

The men’s varsity four entry consisting of senior coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), seniors Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.), junior Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.) and freshman Joseph Naron (Montclair, Va.) posted a fourth place finish with a time of 11:40, while Massachusetts Maritime’s second varsity four consisting of junior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), Belbin and juniors Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.), Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.) and Thomas Miceli (Unionville, Conn.) finished second in its race with a time of 12:06.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four comprised of coxswain Lucenta, sophomores Brianna Caissie (Webster, Mass.), Summer Cawley (Riverview, Fla.) and Christina Brennan (Halifax, Mass.) as well as freshman Andie Painten (Walpole, Mass.), finished sixth overall, and men’s novice eight consisting of freshman coxswain Olivia Swenson (Centerville, Mass.), Naron, Austin Wolfe, John Taglieri and freshmen Cameron MacLean (Townsend, Mass.), Kevin Donato (North Andover, Mass.), Darwin Ayala (New Bedford, Mass.), John Passaretti (Hingham, Mass.) and Timothy O’Neill (Block Island, R.I.) placed second with a time of 12:39.

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads wrap up their fall slate next Saturday morning by heading to Smithfield, R.I. to compete in a dual meet with Bryant beginning at 9:00 a.m.
