FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Senior Taylor Hanley (Wilmington, Mass.) rapped out five hits and drove in four runs to lead Worcester State to a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 13-0 in the opener and 16-1 in the nightcap in games played Sunday afternoon at Framingham State’s Maple Street Field.

Sophomore Courtney Salisbury (Cranston, R.I.) had three hits and a pair of RBI to pace an 11-hit attack in the opener for the host Lancers (9-5, 2-0 MASCAC), who used a seven-run third inning rally to break things open.  Junior Sara Pelletier (Leominster, Mass.) also rapped out two hits and drove in a pair for Worcester State in support of junior Meghan Rich (Chelmsford, Mass.), who went the distance and fanned nine inside the circle to improve to 4-0 on the season.  Freshman Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) registered her first collegiate hit in the opening setback for the visiting Buccaneers (0-2, 0-2 MASCAC), who were opening their 2015 schedule after a 15-day delay due to the weather.  Fellow freshman Carli Thomas (Brewster, Mass.) allowed just six earned runs in going the distance in her first collegiate start for Massachusetts Maritime.

Hanley went 3-for-3 with a double and two more RBI in the nightcap triumph for the Lancers, who scored eight runs in their first two at-bats before posting their second seven run third inning rally of the day.  Junior Hayley Terry (North Dighton, Mass.) added two hits as part of a nine-hit attack for Worcester State, as sophomore Mary McKeown (Shrewsbury, Mass.) allowed a pair of hits and a run over three innings to earn the victory.  The Buccaneers got on the board in the third as senior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) walked, advanced to second on a balk and scored on junior Brittany Driscoll’s (Spencer, Mass.) infield single, while freshman Alexis Jendzejec (West Greenwich, R.I.) also singled for the visitors.  Sophomore Cassidy Nice (Carver, Mass.) fanned one over the first three innings inside the circle for Massachusetts Maritime.
