BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Kerry Alcott (Groton, Mass.) tossed a five-inning perfect game to propel Westfield State to a 9-0 nightcap victory and a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime on Friday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field, as the Owls received four hits and five RBI from senior Cassy Jouannet (Conway, Mass.) to notch a 20-1 triumph in the opening contest.

The visiting Owls (16-15, 8-2 MASCAC) plated seven runs in the third inning and added an eight-run outburst in the fourth frame of the opener, as junior Kerin DeGirolamo (North Attleboro, Mass.) rapped out a triple as part of a two-hit, three RBI performance as well for Westfield State, which also received three RBI off the bat of freshman Bri Eichsteadt (Southampton, Mass.) and two hits each from senior Alicia Gardner (Athol, Mass.) and sophomore Brittany Dussault (Chicopee, Mass.).  Junior Madeline Tomich (Alford, Mass.) scattered a pair of hits and allowed an unearned run while fanning 13 to improve to 12-3 on the mound for the Owls, who collected 17 hits in the opener.  Sophomore Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) and freshman Crystal Sherman (Charlton, Mass.) each rapped out singles in the opening setback for the host Buccaneers (1-19, 0-10 MASCAC), as Sherman scored on a third inning throwing error.  Freshman Jaclyn Labrecque (Sutton, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for Massachusetts Maritime in the lid-lifter, as she fanned three in five innings of work.

Alcott retired all 15 batters she faced and recorded seven strikeouts in the nightcap for Westfield State, which rapped out eight hits and received a pair of RBI off the bat of Dussault in the second contest.  Eichstaedt added a run-scoring triple in support of Alcott, who improved to 3-4 on the season inside the circle for Westfield State, which collected eight hits in completing the sweep.  Sophomore Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) allowed just four earned runs and struck out four on the mound for the Buccaneers in going the distance.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Westfield State heads to North Adams, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference twinbill with MCLA that begins at 2:00 p.m.
