BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Kate Ouellette (Norwood, Mass.) rapped out four hits, while fellow senior Jaclyn Candelet (Pittsfield, Mass.) drove in four runs to lead MCLA to a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 8-0 in the opener and 11-2 in the nightcap in games played Sunday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field.

The visiting Trailblazers (5-7, 2-0 MASCAC) jumped out to 2-0 second inning lead in the opener on an RBI triple by junior Samantha Naring (Norwalk, Conn.) and a Candelet sacrifice fly, and MCLA iced its first triumph with a six run fifth inning outburst that was keyed by a two-run single by sophomore Megan Boyer (Clarksburg, Mass.) and a two-run double off the bat of senior Amanda Borsotti (Lee, Mass.).  Senior Kelly Pirzl (Pittsfield, Mass.) took care of the rest on the mound for the visitors, as she only allowed a double to sophomore Sarah Click (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) for the host Buccaneers (0-10, 0-2 MASCAC) and fanned four to earn her second win of the season.  Sophomore Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) fanned a pair in going the distance for Massachusetts Maritime.

The Buccaneers grabbed a 2-1 lead in their first at-bat of the nightcap on a two-run single by sophomore Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.), but the Trailblazers used six runs in the second inning, including a pair of RBI singles by Candelet and Boyer, to take a 7-2 advantage, and MCLA added two more runs in both the third and fifth frames to complete the sweep.  Junior Kayla Koumjian (Watervliet, N.Y.) rapped out three of the visitors’ 11 hits in the nightcap triumph, while Ouellette and sophomore Ashley Kelley (Turners Falls, Mass.) each added two hits for the Trailblazers in support of freshman Ainsley MacDonald (White River Junction, Vt.), who allowed an earned run and fanned three for her first collegiate victory.  Thibeault collected three of Massachusetts Maritime’s seven hits in the second game setback, as freshman Jaclyn Lacbrecque (Sutton, Mass.) struck out two in going the distance inside the circle for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Wentworth in a non-league doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while MCLA hosts Bay Path in a non-league twinbill on Thursday afternoon in North Adams, Mass. beginning at 3:00 p.m.
