Buccaneers Sail for Hood, Hoyt and Ross Trophies
Sailing took to the road this past weekend travelling to Tufts, Brown and UVM to take part in the Hood, Hoyt, and Ross Trophies respectively. Their best finish came in Vermont with a sixth place finish. In the Hood trophy the team finished in 20th and were 18th at the Hoyt Trophy.
At the Ross Trophy the Buccaneers finished the weekend with 140 points. Due to a very light wind on Saturday the majority of the races took place on Sunday. The Bucs finished top five three times in their 14 races for their sixth place finish. They were 14 points behind Maine Maritime for fifth place and two points ahead of UNH who finished in seventh. Dartmouth, Bates, and UVM finished in the top three with 101, 112, and 114 points respectively.
In the Hood Trophy at Tufts, the Buccaneers had a tough outing finishing with 486 points, 74 points behing Olin College of Engineering in 19th place. Maritime had no top five finishes in any of the races. Harvard, Tufts, and Brown finished top three with Harvard taking home the Hood Trophy.
At the Hoyt, hosted by Brown University, Maritime finished with 438 points, six points back of Connecticut College in 17th. Brown won the trophy with Harvard and Boston College finishing second and third. The Bucs picked up three top 10 finishes in the 28 races with a best finish of seventh place.
Next weekend the Bucs are back on the road for the SUNY Open at SUNY Maritime and the Smith Trophy at MIT.
