Kurek Earns Spot On 2011-12 Mid Atlantic Conference Rifle All-Rookie Team

Massachusetts Maritime freshman rifle standout Diana Kurek was one of 10 individuals named to the 2011-12 Mid-Atlantic Conference All-Rookie Team in a vote of the league’s coaches, as she was honored at the 2012 MAC Championships that took place on the campus of MIT in Cambridge, Mass.

A native of Stamford, Conn. and a graduate of Stamford High School, Kurek posted an average score of 472.80 in five air rifle matches during the course of the season, as she helped lead Head Coach Tom Mantopoulos’s Buccaneers to a fourth place finish in the Marksman Division at this year’s MAC Championships in posting a score of 485 points in air competition.  Kurek also shined in the classroom during her first semester of matriculation at the Academy, earning a spot on the Fall 2011 Massachusetts Maritime Athletic Director’s Honor Roll with the top grade point average on her squad.

Kurek was joined on the 2011-12 MAC All-Rookie Team by John Jay’s Avila Anibal, Akron’s Matt Colangelo and John Hupp, VMI’s Nicole Larson and Justin Vietinghoff, SUN-Maritime’s Allison Lashmet, Penn State’s Rebecca Picone, Wentworth’s Matt Tacy and Navy’s Brandon Thompson.
