Rifle Opens 2009 Campaign By Posting Victories Over John Jay, Penn State At Navy MAC Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --  The Massachusetts Maritime rifle team opened its 2009 season by winning a pair of dual-matches over the weekend at the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Conference Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy.

Junior Michael Surette (Lynn, Mass.) posted a combined score of 1,083 (539 smallbore, 544 air) to lead the Buccaneers in Saturday's action, as Massachusetts Maritime defeated both John Jay (4,192-4,030) and Penn State (4,192,4,105) while falling to Akron (4,456-4,192).  Freshman Jeffrey Morin (Middleton, Mass.) posted a combined score of 1,054 (531 smallbore, 523 air) for the Buccaneers, while junior Kevin Geisel (Gloucester, Mass.) followed with a combined score of 1,052 (509 smallbore, 543 air).  Senior Junita Goldman (Oakdale, Conn.) rounded out the Massachusetts Maritime quartet by posting a combined score of 1,003 (497 smallbore, 503 air).

The Buccaneers dropped a pair of dual-match decisions in Sunday's competition, falling to host Navy (4,627-4,249) as well as the University of the Sciences (4,406-4,249).  Surette led the way with a combined score of 1,075 (540 smallbore, 535 air), while Geisel followed at 1,069 (533 smallbore, 536 air).  Morin was next with a score of 1,065 (539 smallbore, 526 air), while Goldman posted a score of 1,040 (512 smallbore, 528 air).

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until Saturday, November 7th when the Buccaneers travel to Boston to take on Wentworth in a MAC match.
