Kennedy, Simone Named As MASCAC Baseball Player, Rookie Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime junior outfielder Connor Kennedy and freshman first baseman Jackson Simone were named as the respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon for their performances in four Buccaneer contests last week.

 

Kennedy, a native of West Barnstable, Mass. and a graduate of Saint John Paul II High School, batted .471 (8-17) with a pair of doubles, two triples, seven runs scored and six RBI in a 3-1 week for Massachusetts Maritime, including a combined five hits and six RBI in 18-9 and 14-6 non-league victories over Dean.  Connor, who earned the third MASCAC Player of the Week accolade of his career, added a pair of hits in a 3-0 triumph over Johnson & Wales and posted respective .524 on-base and .824 slugging percentages for the week, as he leads the team with a .419 batting average to date.

 

Simone, a native of Seattle, Wash. and a graduate of Roosevelt High School, batted .400 (4-10) with a double and four RBI on the week, including three hits in the 18-9 win over Dean and a key two-run single in the victory over Johnson & Wales.  Jackson, who is hitting .350 overall in his first eight collegiate contests, posted a .533 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage while handling all 30 chances in the field cleanly last week.

 

Head Coach Mike Kelley’s Buccaneers, who stand at 5-3 overall, host Becker in a non-league contest on Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field that begins at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
