Baseball Season Just Six Weeks Away As Buccaneers Prepare For Upcoming 34-Game 2017 Slate

Though the groundhog won’t provide his insight for another two weeks or so, there are definitely only six more weeks of winter remaining on the Massachusetts Maritime athletic calendar, as the Buccaneers are set to begin their 34-game regular season schedule in late February.

Head Coach Mike Kelley’s squad, which posted the third highest single-season victory total in program history with 24 triumphs in 2016, opens its new campaign on Monday, February 27th with a non-league doubleheader against Houghton (N.Y.) at Lawnwood Park in Fort Pierce, Fla. beginning at 12:30 p.m. EST.  The Buccaneers commence their Northern slate on Saturday, March 11th with a non-league doubleheader against Johnson & Wales at Commodore Hendy Field at Noon EST, and Massachusetts Maritime will play 19 contests on the shores of Buttermilk Bay this spring by also welcoming Newbury, Wentworth, Dean, Gordon, Becker, Fisher and Coast Guard for non-league dates as well as Fitchburg State, Salem State, Framingham State and Bridgewater State for Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clashes.

Kelley’s crew hits the road for 13 games during the upcoming spring, as the Buccaneers will venture to Clark, WPI, Dean, Tufts and Suffolk for non-league affairs while also heading to Worcester State, MCLA and Westfield State for conference action.
